RPA is basically the automation of structured business process steps by a software robot. By automating rule-based standard processes, RPA Bots give employees more time and space for innovative and value-adding projects. In addition, process cycle times can be reduced and business processes organized more efficiently.
RPA = not a “revolution”, but the minimally invasive way for the automation of business processes
In most cases, companies that want to increase the benefits of automated business processes are faced with the challenge of replacing existing software with new software tailored for automation. Such profound structural changes typically involve high personnel, financial and organizational expenses; one example is the introduction of a new ERP software. From high license costs, time consuming implementation tasks to the training of employees in the new software, a “simple software rollout” often results in a project that ties up significant resources. As mentioned in the beginning, RPA bots should not be considered the same as” physical industrial robots”, they only exist on the software level within the respective systems. While automated software involves a deep intervention in the system’s, the software robots imitates the process steps performed by the human user. This includes everything from the activation of buttons to the input and validation of data. The software robots act as an independent unit and work “above” the software landscape without interfering in the existing processes and systems.
